January (janvier) 2020
Students have been working so hard this month learning tons of new vocabulary and working it into full sentences. I am blown away by the Grade 3s ability to recall the names for over 20 items found in a house. They are enthusiastic learners and love playing a variety of games to practice new words. The grade 2s worked hard to make sentences that make sense. They are learning to think about what they are saying and apply vocabulary to a variety of settings. The first graders have looked at many words associated with winter, using the song "C'est l'hiver" as a reference (check it out on the Resources page!). Next, they will learn words for some parts of the body. I look forward to continue working with all students through February.

December (décembre) 2019
Je ne peux pas croire que c'est deja la fin du semestre! (I can't believe it's already the end of the term.) It has been a whirlwind of learning, K/1 concert rehearsals, and now carolling. The grade 1 students started the month by finishing up our school supply and rooms in a school unit. The grade 2 students played a Jeopardy-style game to reinforce their knowledge about school vocabulary in French, and the grade 3 students completed a project all about their family- who they are, what they look like, and their personality.
I am excited to be back in January to teach French for a few more months. I hope you all have a lovely winter break and take the time to rest, recharge, and come back ready to learn!

November (novembre) 2019
Bonjour mes amis! November is shaping up to be a busy month in the French room, with several topics getting underway. All classes have now finished our unit about Halloween. Before getting into themes of school supplies (Gr 1 and Gr 2), and family (Gr 3), students will briefly review key terms for Remembrance Day, such as "le coquelicot" (poppy), "je me souviens" (I remember), "la paix" (peace), and "les soldats" (soldiers). After that, hopefully we will have time to learn about rooms in our school, teachers, and how to describe our school in Grade 1 and 2 and parts of the body and how to describe ourselves in Grade 3.
Please make a habit of asking your child(ren) what they are learning in French each week, specifically asking them to share at least 1 new word or sentence that they know. Or, if you are feeling unsure how to help them because you don't speak French yourself, have them teach you new words or phrases, counting, or anything else they can share!
Merci!

October (octobre) 2019
L'automne est arrive! Fall has arrived! Even if it looks like winter...
The grade 1s have been working to improve their basic French knowledge with shapes, numbers, and the alphabet. They are currently learning vocabulary words for Autumn, including apples, trees, wind, jacket, pumpkin, and more!
The grade 2 students have been working on common French expressions such as "please," "thank you," and "Can I go to the bathroom?" They have also reviewed numbers and shapes. They are now working on mathematical expressions in French.
The grade 3s have finished their review of numbers, colours, and expressions, and have quickly moved through mathematical expressions. They are now working on saying "merci" as it relates to Thanksgiving and appreciating all that they have.
Parent conferences are Thursday from 4-8pm and Friday from 8am-11am. I encourage all parents to stop by the French room to see the classroom, look at what students have been learning, and allow me to introduce myself in a brief conversation about their learning.

Bienvenue a la classe de francais! Welcome to French class!
This is going to be such an exciting month! I can't wait to introduce the grade one students and all those students new to Le Roi Daniels and TLC to the French language! I am also excited to see all the grade two and three students returning this year!
My goal for my time at LRD is to get all students interested in learning French and demonstrate pride in their language abilities as the year progresses.
Themes and vocabulary that we are working on will be listed on this site, as well as relevant videos and posters on the "Resources" page.
Please don't hesitate to contact me, Mme MacDonald at any time. Contact information can be found on the "About/Contact" page.
Merci!
